WHO WE ARE: DEVELOPERS' BIOS

PETER BASS has been doing progressive development in Southern Maine for nearly 20 years. He has focused on finding unique value and uses for properties and forming collaborations to realize his vision. His credits in real-estate innovation include Portland's first dedicated artist studio building, built in 1986, and the more recent development of live/work condominiums, a housing type that is new to Maine. Peter's overarching goal is to create inspiring, unique, and affordable properties that will foster community and produce a positive impact on the region.



RICHARD BERMAN has been developing real estate in Maine since 1986. Trained as a landscape architect, Berman brings unique perspectives in design and community collaboration to all of his projects. His most recent projects include Brick Hill, the mixed-use redevelopment of the former Maine Youth Center in South Portland. This project created the model adopted by the Maine Bureau of General Services for the redevelopment of former State property. Other recently completed projects include Unity Village in Portland and West Falmouth Crossing. Mr. Berman has won numerous awards for his projects and is frequently asked to speak on his innovative community-based development style.



KEVIN BUNKER is the newest member of Developers Collaborative, joining after graduating with distinction in 2007 from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design with a Master in Urban Planning degree. A former municipal planner, grantwriter, and lobsterman, Kevin is a principal on many of DC's current projects, including Thomaston Green, Birch Hill, Gilman Place, and Crescent Heights. Kevin brings experience in complex financing models including tax increment financing, use of tax credits, and other public private partnerships. Kevin is also an activist promoting the causes of smart growth at the state and local level. Kevin sees great future growth in the area of public or institutional partnerships with the private sector and is responsible for DC's continued expansion into this field. Kevin lives in Brunswick with his wife Amanda and their daughter Alex.



JIM HATCH has over two decades of experience developing affordable housing. He has worked with non-profit groups and municipalities to create a wide range of successful housing projects, including single-family subdivisions, group homes, assisted living, and rental and condominium communities. Jim has brought dozens of projects through the real estate development process, including site acquisition, recruitment and management of the development team, land use approvals, financing through banks and public agencies, and construction management. He has a very successful track record in obtaining grants and subsidy financing for his clients' projects from sources ranging from CDBG to Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston. Jim is personally committed to creating housing that is sustainable and obtainable.



DIRK THOMAS has 20 years experience in a variety of capacities including as a developer, real estate appraiser, property manager and real estate broker. Successful projects include West Falmouth Crossing Shopping Center, and multiple office buildings in South Portland including redevelopment of The Castle at Brickhill, 52,525 sf. office building on the Brickhill Campus. Mr. Thomas has extensive permitting, financing and project management experience.
