WEST FALMOUTH CROSSING IN FALMOUTH, MAINE

West Falmouth Crossing is a new commercial town center for a rapidly-growing bedroom community just north of Portland's northern boundary. The project was a collaboration between lead developer Richard Berman of the Developers Collaborative, the Dead River Corporation, and municipal staff and residents from the Town of Falmouth.

West Falmouth Crossing includes a mix of large and small-scale neighborhood retail businesses along with office space. A Hannaford grocery store and retail complex occupies the eastern half of the site, and a new office building for TD Banknorth anchors the site west of Gray Road. The site also includes vital neighborhood commercial services, including banks, convenience stores, medical offices, a daycare facility, and other storefronts.

In the process of planning the development, neighbors from the town of Falmouth also emphasized a desire to preserve open space on the site, and the development includes forty acres of preserved forestland and riparian habitat on the site along the Presumpscot River.

Originally envisioned as a transit-oriented development, West Falmouth Crossing is located at the northern terminus of a METRO bus line, and adjacent to a planned passenger rail line that could someday offer commuter rail service between Falmouth and downtown Portland.
