SSCC is a repurposing and historic restoration of the former Maine Girls' Academy, previously McAuley High School. The 50,000 square foot building located in Deering Center is a part of the multi-phase redevelopment of the 19-acre former Sisters of Mercy site. The community center is designed to serve the residents of other DC projects on site, the Motherhouse and Stevens Square at Baxter Woods. It is also open to the public. In addition to an existing gymnasium and 480-seat auditorium on site, DC has built a childcare center, and is developing a full service health and wellness center, a cafe, and is converting the former classrooms into commercial office spaces designed for compatible businesses. The project combines the preservation of historic elements of the school with new systems including state-of-the-art UV air filtration.
